Early Blooming Crocus

Because of their very early bloom time, blooming crocuses are often considered the first sign of spring. Say goodbye to a gloomy, muddy yard at the end of winter — instead you'll find more and more cheery crocuses, as they bloom so early and multiply every year. This particular collection of crocus varieties was selected specifically for a beautiful blend of same-time blooming color, to give spring an especially warm welcome!

Lawn Beauties

I have these in my lawn and we put about 300 or so in the front lawns of our Unitarian Universalist Church. Super simple to plant --have one person jump on shovel till it goes in most of the way. Lean it forward till it opens slot/space into dirt that goes down abt 3-4". Have second person (we mostly had our 3-8 yr olds doing this part) drop two crocus bulbs into hole, and optionally someone older add abt a teaspoon of bulb booster fertilizer between the bulbs. Step off the shovel, pulling it out gently. Step on ground to close slit & firm dirt around bulb. Move over 8-12" and do again til bulbs are gone! It goes much faster than does reading this explanation. It also makes it easier on the shovel users if the ground was thoroughly & deeply watered tge day before. The kid/adult pairs ran little contests with each other and when the first Spring came around the children excitedly and proudly pointed out which areas they had done. Also built good bonds btwn the generations. Now everyone in the neighborhood and those driving by get to see the loveliness early each Spring -- 2016 the first ones bloomed on February 17th! And we have great opportunities for conversations with neibors and others who stop over, email or even write to say how lovely it is. Highly recommend. Beautifies and are done long before it's time to start mowing again.
