Hardy Banana Tree

Description
Enjoy a beautiful accent of huge banana leaves into your garden design, no matter your garden location, thanks to this incredibly hardy ornamental. It thrives even in regions where temperatures dip as low -20 degrees F, and features long, oblong leaves up to 10' in length. In summer, they're joined by pale yellow to cream blooms. It does not produce edible fruit, grown for its decorative charm instead. Plant it alongside other tropical beauties, like elephant ears, to turn your cool climate garden into lush, tropical oasis. Though it's called a tree, this Hardy Banana is actually an incredibly large perennial. Musa basjoo

Plants packaged very well. Spent last summer redoing my beds as they were not supporting life well after pool install removed all the soil. All others doing fantastic and I use worm castings+biochar all around to make everything grow like crazy. My 2nd year nectarine is 10ft already with a 4" dia trunk! My 2 little bananas are maybe 5 inches tall on July 5,2017. Planted May 20,2017 and they were skinnier but not any shorter. Kind of a bummer the growth is so slow. Hoping now that cold nights are over, we'll see good growth (and also I fenced out a pesky fat rabbit with a taste for banana leaves!). I am in MI, zone 5B. I promise to repost end of season with results. So frustrating not to hear end results!!

This plant is returning in full force after Ohio winter. It was mulched with leaves and covered with a 5gal bucket after the first frost and uncovered in mid April. I would recommend this plant to anyone for its fast growing tropical look that will stand up cold temperatures with mulching.

This is a review for the plant on a pot...I did not plant in the ground. I bought 2, they grew to about 6 feet in the summer. I brought them to work and put in a sunny window and they continued to grow until they got a spider mite problem (I blame a fern someone brought) I cut the tops off and sprayed them down and they are still going! I can't wait until it warms to see how big they get this year. Have ordered 2 more!

Is it wrong to love a plant so much????

I purchased three of these on April 5, 2014. They arrived in tiny 4 pots, so I was skeptical about their viability in my zone 6. Not to worry. They grew to 12' tall by mid-October, literally hiding a 12' post I had installed to hang a topiary monkey from. Now I can't hang the monkey!! I'm sending them a photo of these beauties. I'm digging up a couple of the off-shoots just in case the over-wintering doesn't work so well. If you want a tropical element in your garden, look no further. Fuss-free & stunning!!!

I bought 2 of these Hardy Banana trees this spring for my husband. They were so small when they first arrived. Now 5 months later, they're towering over my privacy fence! They're starting to grow new little trees out of the base now. We've begun to separate and re-pot the new ones. Our first 3 transplants have survived and are getting bigger. Everyday my husband & I are amazed at just how quickly new leaves sprout and open up. The leaves a HUGE! We're VERY impressed with these trees!

Just to update the plants that I purchased and planted this spring. They did excellent and I now have them in the basement for the winter under grow lights and three of them are seven feet tall. All have lots of small ones coming up all around them. I can't wait to get them back in the garden next spring.

Who knew this little bugger (3 inches high) was going to grow to be a behemoth. This is the most impressive plant I've ever known. I have people driving by stopping and commenting about it. All I do overwinter is cut down to base cover with mulch and a bucket. It came back within a week of uncovering it it mid-April. I would highly recommend this piece of paradise!

I ordered one of these last year 2012 and when it arrived was about 4 tall. Planted it and during the summer it grew to 6' tall with beautiful huge leaves. My concern was how it would do over the winter. I cut it back in the fall and this spring it is growing great with two additional shoots. Great experience.
