LOVE these Josee Lilacs!!

First -- I love the folks at Michigan Bulb. Every order has been well packaged and received in good condition. Yes, the plants can be on the smallish side. That is what you get for their low prices. Want a bigger plant? Buy from your local nursery and be prepared to pay 5 to 10 times MBC's low prices. Me, I do not mind wee tiny plants because they grow, they Grow, they GROW! About the Josee Lilacs -- as noted by several reviewers as they arrived in little itty bitty plastic pots. I try to plant by mid-May here in the Detroit area, zone 6. These were placed to create a privacy hedge in one row, about 15 inches apart. Normally I puddle my plants in with fish emulsion water to give them a good feed to get started for the season. (not a chemical fertilizer fish emulsion is a smelly but very easily assimilated blast of extra nutrition.). The first year, they doubled in size, the second year, they doubled again. They get full sun for about 8 to 9 hours a day and light shade the rest of the day. By year 3, they were hip high and began blooming in spring. The particles were removed as soon as they were kspent and YES, they will set more blossoms. Last year was year 5 and I watched them bloom 3 times during our Michigan winter. They are now shoulder high and they were covered with spectacular blossoms that are so fragrant my neighbors 2 doors down on both sides can smell them. The 2nd and 3rd blooms were smaller and less showed but just as fragrant. The one and only challenge with these Josee Lilacs is that since my home is near a wetlands area, the deer love to nibble on them. They come for a snack of my Lilacs and stay for the salad bar of my lilies and other perennial plants. For our severe winters (and we have had some doozies these past few years) my usual practice is to mulch my beds with wood chip mulch to about 4 - 6 inches. In short -- don't be concerned about the small size of your starter plants because they DO grow. You will love the Lilacs blooming again in August. These are GREAT plants and mine are creating a visual hedge to divide the front and back yards. Give them a chance and some TLC and you should be rewarded with "stink pretty" bushes. Have fun planting. Maggie

Everyone commented on how small they were when they arrived. I have to disagree! Mine were packaged beautifully and we're very healthy and I was surprised at how big they were. I was definitely not expecting that after reading the reviews. I bought 12 for around my deck. They are all thriving! I planted them a few weeks ago and they've already doubled in size!! I'm excited you see them in full bloom!! Im always leery about buying from a catalogue company, but I can say I will for sure purchase again from Michigan Bulb Company!

Have had 2 of these for 5 years. They are superb flowering shrub. The reblooming part does not need mentioning since it's so sparse.

The plants arrived really small (more like twigs). I planted them right away. Now all three plants are back after a very long winter. One of them even has flowers. So cute.

Last year when this was shipped, I planted it after a good soaking. I laughed at it's size & thought there's no way this would make it. SUPRIZE!!! It did great through the winter & for it's size, it puts out a great smell that is not over whelming. If you love lilacs.. I would suggest in getting at least a few of these great plants!!

I bought 2 of these a number of years ago. I have them in large pots on my deck. They bloom more and more each year. They smell great. Be sure to trim back after blooming so will bloom again and again. You can also prune to keep them smaller for pots.

We are really enjoying this little lilac! It gets a little taller, and a little fuller each year, this is our third. It's lovely to be able to examine the blooms so closly due to it's shorter stature. Smells awesome. Good buy!

I have two of these bushes and we love them. The fragrance is great, and only a few will help a room to smell great. It seems they bloom more the older they get. We are planning to move, and I will definitely plant them at our new home.

Arrived healthy and well-packaged. All are thriving despite being in very different areas of the garden with varying light and water specs. Half have already shown blooms despite their small size. Very lovely pink as pictured and fragrant. A solid purchase. Definitely look forward to watching them fill their spot in the landscaping.

I ordered two, and even though outhers said they would be small... I didn't expect the plants to be THAT small. The cardboard sleeving pack inside the small box, at least held them well from shipping damage. One was so wilty and off it, I thought it was going to die. I gave them a good soaking then potted them up in 8 pots and put them in my GREENHOUSE to give them a fighting chance. I can say that they are indeed coming around, and managed to both put out some leaves, though both lost the bloom stems they had. I don't mind that as long as they pull through. I am going to start hardening them off before they go out in their permanent spots after our frost date (we have had four hard freezes since I got them, interspersed with 80 plus days!) I would say without some babying I would have lost both right off the bat. I have faith that with a full summer to get established they will be fine in my 6b (drought) climate as long as I keep them watered. I gave a three because of the condition they were in on arrival and size, and that with some TLC they are growing well right now. I will echo other reviews I have read, the plants shipped are VERY SMALL.

I love this lilac! It is a beautiful accent plant, about 3' in its 2nd yr. You can smell the blooms from our deck 15' away. It's completely covered in blooms and will bloom again a few more times this year. You won't be disappointed if you purchase this plant!
