I totally LOVE this plant. We put three in our UU church's "Two Spirit Butterfly & Hummingbird" garden. When planted we watered them in with a well-known liquid fertilizer, & the first summer repeated a gallon of it per plant weekly (1/2 strength). They grew nearly six foot tall that first summer, & in succeeding years they've been regularly 4-6' tall. AND covered with the sweetest smelling, brilliantly red flowers that really do bring in the butterflies and hummingbirds!! I don't know why this isn't a much, much more popular plant. Extremely easy care (it really doesn't require our fussy fertilizing care, our soil was rather poor then), reliable growth, stunning & abundant flowers, forgiving of when old growth is cut back before next Spring's new growth -- & of being let go a couple years too long before being divided, grows well even with our water-saving low-watering regime now. Try it - it's simple, reliable and stunning.
