Nice, but Short-Lived

I bought over 300 of these bulbs and they went right into the ground immediately after they arrived last autumn. They came up quickly in April, but then died just as quickly. The variety that showed up in my garden were a few yellow and purple, only two white, and lots of blue. I've grown Dutch Irises before and you can get them to give a second bloom if you deadhead them correctly, but these wouldn't give a second bloom (so far), only fat seed heads and withered stalks after about two weeks of flowers that died quickly.
